Primary Purpose (Role):
The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for analysing, developing, implementing and maintaining business intelligence solutions that enable accurate, timely decision-making and strategic insights across the organisation. This role acts as a bridge between technical data platforms and business requirements by building scalable data solutions, reports, APIs and analytical tools that enhance operational performance and support organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, enhance and maintain reports, dashboards and analytical applications to deliver meaningful insights for business users.
- Design, develop and maintain the company’s Data Lake and Data Warehouse to support high-quality data storage, retrieval and analytics.
- Create secure API endpoints for internal stakeholders and external clients to facilitate data access and integration.
- Design robust data models and collaborate with system developers to extract data from both existing and new sources, adhering to sound software engineering standards and stakeholder requirements.
- Perform ETL and data transformation processes on large data volumes using advanced SQL and Python.
- Work closely with business units to understand processes and translate requirements into effective BI solutions.
- Arrange and facilitate meetings and workshops with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors to capture and document functional and technical requirements.
- Develop and utilise monitoring tools to ensure data readiness, integrity and overall solution quality.
- Collaborate with the wider IT department to uphold data quality, integrity and security standards.
- Plan and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to verify dashboards, reports and applications meet user needs prior to release.
- Research and evaluate new tools, methods and technologies to enhance the BI suite and support organisational goals.
Operational Management:
- Write clear functional and technical specifications derived from business requirements.
- Analyse existing reports, dashboards and applications to identify and design improvements.
- Identify issues, recommend solutions and define necessary controls and procedures.
- Define functional requirements aligned with future business processes.
- Plan and manage projects, including setting milestones, schedules and tracking progress.
- Monitor project activities, resolve issues and report status with recommended actions.
- Maintain confidentiality and assess the operational impact of changes.
- Support the implementation of approved changes.
- Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure technology supports all processes and deliverables.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate BI solutions to ensure alignment with business needs.
- Test new or modified reports, dashboards and applications (unit, integration and UAT testing).
- Assist in defining training needs for new BI solutions.
- Support, maintain and optimise deployed reports, dashboards and applications.
- Understand data integration within enterprise architecture and map data flows accordingly.
- Develop, document and maintain APIs for internal and external clients to support data access and integration.
- Collaborate on API design, security, versioning and performance monitoring.
- Participate in the design, build-out and maintenance of data lakes and data warehouses, ensuring scalable and high-quality data storage and retrieval.
- Engage with stakeholders to define data models and schema for lake/warehouse structures.
- Develop implementation plans and liaise with users across locations to resolve issues.
- Provide regular status updates to users and management.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong proficiency in SQL, relational database design and query performance optimisation.
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ETL processes and data modelling techniques.
- Experience working with large datasets and dimensional modelling.
- Proficiency in data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QlikView or similar.
- Familiarity with API architecture and best practises.
- Ability and willingness to learn and experiment with emerging technologies.
- Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python and C#.

Qualifications:
- Formal Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Data Science, or a related field (Essential).
Experience:
- Job-Related Experience Required:
- Microsoft SQL Server experience – data interrogation, integration, ETL, query optimisation, etc. (3+ years, Essential).
- Experience as a BI or application developer within an IT organisation or IT department (3+ years, Essential).
- Exposure to various stages of the project life cycle (3+ years, Advantageous).
- Leading BI-related projects from inception to delivery (1+ year, Advantageous).
- Experience working with API frameworks (1+ year, Advantageous).
